Don’t let the June gloom deceive you, summer is almost here! It’s time to use the last week of spring to declutter your home in preparation for the season to come. Here are a few things that you have stored away in your closets, kitchens, nooks and crannies that are ready to be dusted off and refreshed for the sunny days ahead!

Clear out the water bottles
I know you have more water bottles than you could possibly use. I don’t know where they come from, but they always seem to multiply out of thin air! Take five minutes and let go of the ones that have lost their lids, the ones you don’t like, and the ones that you still haven’t been able to get that funky smell out of.
Pare down outdoor games
Outdoor games. Did you leave your Cornhole boards outside all winter and they got ruined? Did no one in your family touch the dusty croquet set again last year? Before the summer starts, get rid of the outdoor games that are no longer needed before they tumble down on you like a giant Jenga tower.
Sort your pool and beach towels
Pool and beach towels. This is the perfect time to go through your towels! Find the ones with rips that you can fit your hand through and the ones with the stains you just can’t get out. Make sure you set a few aside for emergency flood towels, and keep an extra in your car just in case. Then you can take the rest to your local animal shelter and donate them to a dog near you!
Trash expired sunscreen
Sunscreen. This is one that is easiest to make the cut on. Sunscreen becomes ineffective after a few years, so make sure you toss the bottles that have been in your cabinet for just a little too long. If they have been sitting out in the sun, they have lost their potency and need to go! Before you go out and buy a bunch of new sunscreen, get rid of the ones you have that are expired, smell bad, or that you just don’t like.
Storing winter clothes
Winter clothes. As the cold is dissipating and the sun is emerging, it is time to get rid of the lingering winter wear that didn’t make it through the season. Do you have jackets that the kids have grown out of? How about clothes that are too worn out to keep you warm? The snow pants that stayed in the back of your closet because you didn’t like them enough to wear out also are ready to go. Declutter your winter gear, then pack up what’s left and store it so it’s ready for next winter!
Use the time ahead of summer to declutter what you have and get you prepared for the fun in the sun to come. It will help you from overbuying sunscreen, and keep the closets from overflowing with rackets that have never seen a tennis ball.
